Michael George Meier
February 16th, 1930 - September 21st, 2022

Michael George Meier was born on February 16, 1930 in Redwood Falls, Minnesota to Christian parents Albert and Emma (Arndt) Meier. Due to the Great Depression, the family moved several times, including to Virginia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and Wisconsin.

Following high school graduation in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Mike was drafted into the army, serving two years in the Korean War. Following an honorable discharge, Mike enrolled in a business administration program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and during this time he met Dianne Glaub; they subsequently married in 1955 and honeymooned through several western states, including Arizona where they trekked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. In 1959, Mike earned a certificate in industrial management from the aforementioned institution, and shortly thereafter was hired by American Family Insurance Company as a casualty claims examiner, retiring after 35 years of employment.

From the mid-1960s through mid-2014, Mike and his family ventured on month-long vacations to areas of the western United States and Canada. An avid photographer, he amassed a sizable library of 35mm and 120mm slides, capturing the beauty and remoteness of the American West. They spent many happy hours touring locations and sitting next to warm campfires with their dog, though never staying too long at one destination. In later years, Mike and Dianne traveled on extended westbound trips to visit sons and grandchildren in Colorado and Washington states.

The true legacy Mike leaves to his family, as well as to others, is his steadfast and humble commitment to living life through his Christian faith. He was a faithful member of the Lutheran Protes'tant Conference where he served 40 years as treasurer, being appointed when his father Albert served as chairman. Similar to his father's characteristic approach to life, he would be the first to point out his own shortcomings while humbly being the foundational support to his family, and to others, through leading by example and listening to others before offering even-handed, faith-based advice. Mike often pointed out how the challenges of life's ebbs and flows can be successfully navigated through the steady belief that all things are in God's hands, emphasizing a balanced approach to life based on a repentant heart and on the belief that fearing, loving, and trusting in God above all things is the pathway to salvation. Together, Mike and Dianne established a faith-filled household, creating an environment in which their sons, as well as other relatives, could feel at all times comfortable seeking out and obtaining unvarnished faith-based direction.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife Dianne, his three sons, Mark (Kathy), Todd (Amy), and Nathan (Sarah), five grandchildren, and his sisters, Grace Texley and Katherine Chang.

Funeral Services will be Friday, September 30th, 2022 at 11:30 am, at Appleyard's Home for Funerals, 19 W. Messenger St., Rice Lake, WI 54868. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Funeral Services.
