FOR ANYONE WILLING TO HELP with my photo request. Sgt, Benjamin B. Kinsey is buried at Andersonville prison, Ga.. Sgt.Benjamin B. Kinsey Co. "K", 132nd N.Y. Inf. He died in April 16864 His plot is code #10564 Grave 564 $ , To begin, this monument is a cenotaph for Sgt.Kinsey. He actually died at Andersonville, Ga. of chronic Diarrea on 4/15/1864, and sadly, the body was never transported home. In truth, only 12 bodies from the prison were ever disinterred and moved. Mr. Kinsey enlisted at N.Y.C. on 8/22/1862 as a corporal. He was mustered in on 10/14/1862. The 132nd saw service in North Carolina, and in 2 seperate actions at Batchelder's Creek in particular. On 2/1/1864 General George Pickett began an attempt to retake the New Berne. Union troops pull back into their defenses and Pickett, after a short struggle, changes his mind. Federal losses are 5 dead, 8 wounded, and 56 P.O.W.. Sgt. Kinsey is among those captured. He died at Andersonville prison on 4/15/1864.His family would raise a monument to himm in a small, pretty cemetery on Staten Island. in July, 1865.
