Daniel Eugene Polk "Dan" CHARLOTTE - Mr. Polk, 79, of Fairfax, SC, formerly of Charlotte, NC died Monday, August 20, 2012 at his residence. Mr. Polk was born October 6, 1932 in Sandersville, GA to Joe and Sara Jenkins Polk. He was raised in Varnville, SC by his aunt and uncle, Edwin and Leona Polk Peeples. He was a graduate of Varnville High School and attended Clemson University on a baseball scholarship. Mr. Polk primarily worked in the construction industry, managing commercial building projects across the Southeast. He was a Charlotte, NC resident for 40 years before retiring to SC. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his aunt Leona, uncle Edwin, and brothers Frank Polk of Beaufort, SC and Bill Polk and Ed Polk, both of Warner Robins, GA. Mr. Polk is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia (Patsy) Harvey Polk; son Daniel (Chuck) Polk and wife Debbie of Charlotte, NC; daughter Robin Polk Williams and husband Steve of Gibsonia, PA; daughter Laurie Polk Schwartz and husband Russell of Charlotte, NC; son Brett Polk and wife Laura of Asheville, NC; daughter Susan Polk Sparks and husband Greg of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Jason Polk and wife Elisha, Leslie Polk Yankosky and husband LJ, Sarah Polk, Ralph Polk, Ann Polk, Forrest Polk, Elise Williams, Emily Williams and Brooke Sparks; great-grandchildren Jordan Polk and Brooks Yankosky; brother Joe Polk of Douglas, GA; and many loving extended family members and friends. A memorial service celebrating his life was held on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 11:00am at St. Nicholas Lutheran Church, Fairfax, SC. The family would like to thank the staff at Allendale County Hospital and John E. Harter Nursing Home for their care of Mr. Polk during his final illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to St. Nicholas Lutheran Church, PO Box 1111, Fairfax, SC 29827.
