On Wednesday evening, April 28, 1869, Mary Thompson married Seaborn Howard Wade, a wealthy cotton merchant. The Rev. George G.N. McDonell performed the ceremony. They had a daughter named Caroline "Carrie" Wade and Mary became stepmother to two girls named Nettie and Josephine "Josie" Wade.

Like her father, Mary was also an author and editor. In 1878, The Savannah Weekly News published a serial called "The Image of Her Mother". Mary wrote under the pen name "Ruth Rustic". After her father's death, Mary also edited many of his other sketches to be published; "John's Alive" and "The Bride of A Ghost" by Major Jones.
Mrs. Mary A. Wade
Mrs. Mary A. Wade died at the Savannah Hospital at 12 o'clock last night. She had been in ill health for two years or more, but only recently had her condition become critical. She was 69 years old. Her husband, Seaborn Howard Wade, died in Savannah forty years ago. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Thomas Fletcher Smith of Savannah, Mrs. R.C. McCall of Union, S.C. and Mrs. W.T. Thompson of Quitman, and a brother, W.T. Thompson, also of Quitman.
Mrs. Wade was a daughter of Col. W.T. Thompson, who died in 1882 and who for many years was editor of the Savannah Morning News and was one of the best known men in the South. Her mother was Mrs. Caroline Love Thompson.
The funeral will take place tomorrow from the residence of her daughter, 2209 Barnard Street.
