James "Jim" Felthauser passed away at home in Round Rock, Texas on September 25, 2022 at the age of 68. His battle with serious medical issues showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile and he stayed strong until the end. In the months preceding his passing he was surrounded by family.

Jim was born and raised in Los Alamos, NM on December 11, 1953 to Mr. Harry Earl and Donna Pearl Felthauser. Jim was the eldest sibling of 5 and was happy to be a big brother to Jana, Kathleen, Mark, and Roger. Growing up he enjoyed hiking in the canyon behind their house and outdoor activities with his parents and siblings.

He attended New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology earning a BS in Physics. He worked as a software engineer for many years to support his family. He loved to learn and had a wide range of knowledge which focused on science and technology, he continued to learn new things and share those learnings until his passing. Later in life, he supported his community by volunteering for Computers for Kids at the Round Rock Serving Center, working at voting poll locations and substitute teaching at local schools where he would have fun pretending to be Santa.

He met his wife and love of his life, Karen Putzig in college. They married on May 30, 1981 at the Fern Grotto in Kauai, Hawaii with a beautiful and private ceremony and honeymoon. They followed this with a reception in Salt Lake City surrounded by family and friends. Together, they had 5 children, Erik, Jason, Dana, Alisha and Kyle. They went on many trips to visit family, camp, ski, and hike. They lived in Socorro, NM, Salt Lake City, UT, Pittsfield, MA, and Round Rock, TX. They had a long and loving marriage and celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 2021.

Jim was a kind, loving, supportive and funny father and his children feel lucky and proud to call him Dad. He worked hard to support this family, but made time to go on trips, help with boy scout activities, teaching them to drive and ski, and sat down for family dinner every night. He had quick wit with seemingly endless dad jokes. He was a role model to his children, inspiring them to be optimistic, value education, love nature, and work hard.

He will be remembered as a selfless and kind person who enjoyed the simple things in life.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Donna P. Felthauser and his sister, Jana G. Felthauser.

Jim is survived by his wife Karen P. Felthauser, his children, Erik L. Felthauser (Kevin), Jason J. Felthauser (Annabel), Dana D. Felthauser, Alisha M. Felthauser, Kyle C. Felthauser (Clara), his father Harry E. Felthauser, and his siblings, Kathleen D. Felthauser, Mark A. Felthauser, and Roger P. Felthauser.

Donations can be made to the Round Rock Serving Center or Age of Central Texas in James Felthauser's name.
