Joe S. Joyner died February 1, 2008 as a result of heart failure. He was born January 13, 1925, in Russellville, Ark. He was the son of the late J. Ed. Joyner and Lucile Drummond Joyner. Joe attended public schools in Little Rock and graduated from Central High School in 1942. He graduated with a B.S.E.E. degree from the University of Arkansas in 1949. He obtained a Master's degree in Engineering Management from S.M.U. in 1966. During World War II, he was in the Army's 104th Division and served in Europe. He was awarded a Bronze Star for bravery.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wanda Izell Joyner, son John Allen Joyner, granddaughter Ava Joyner, and sister, Kathryn Briscoe McCracken. His daughter, Mary Kathryn, preceded him in death.

Joe was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order, Jaycees, Knife and Fork Club and First Methodist Church of Corpus Christi. He was a member of the Administrative Board in several Methodist churches. Joe and Wanda have sung in church choirs for over 40 years at several Methodist churches across the country.

Joe worked in the aeronautical industry for 20 years. After 17 years with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, he retired in 1990.

Funeral services were held Feb. 5 at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills, Alexander, AR. Burial followed at Griffin Leggett-Forest Hills Cemetery.
