Leta Shelby Wimpey, 95, of Hapeville, died Monday, October 03, 2022. Leta was born in Woodward, Oklahoma on August 16, 1927. She was the youngest of four children of Rev. Calder Lex Shelby and Mary Conrad Shelby. During WWII, her family moved to Tybee Island, Georgia to be near her father at Fort Screven. She graduated from Tift College with a degree in education and taught for 38 years, retiring from the Fulton County School System. The first year she taught was at the Macon School for the Blind. Leta was married to John Andrew Wimpey until his death in 2010. On April 12, 1982, their daughter, LeAnn Wimpey Hulsey was killed in an automobile accident. Leta and John were longtime active members of the Hapeville First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 10th at Hapeville First Baptist Church, with The Reverend Tyler Brock officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until the service hour at the church. The interment service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Old Liberty Baptist Cemetery in Blairsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hapeville First Baptist Church, 612 College Street, Hapeville, GA 30354. Donehoo-Lewis Funeral Home, Hapeville. 404-761-2171
