Ms. Gentry was born Jan. 21, 1926, in Otway, N.C., the daughter of Rumley and Julia Gillikin. She worked at Raycraft Drug in Decatur, Rich East High School in Park Forest, and South Suburban Hospital in Hazelcrest. Elwanda was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered at the Wabash Hospital Association. She married Henry Gentry Jr. on March 24, 1944, in Yorktown, Va., and he preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 2000.
Surviving are her daughters, Mary Beth (Bobby) Cordell of North Augusta, S.C., and Judith Ann (Steven) Mirochnick of Hammond, Ind.; son, Bob (Sheryl) Gentry of Arlington, Texas; sisters, Naomi B. Lawrence of Jacksonville, Fla., and Sophronia Ann Pittman of Stacy, N.C.; brother, Russell D. (Marjorie) Gillikin of Seaford, Va.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Elwanda was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Jeffrey; three brothers; and one sister.
