Mr. Alvin P. Barker, age 80, of 535 Branch Road, Cedartown, GA passed away on Friday February 1, 2008 following an extended illness. Mr. Barker was born on July 11, 1927 in Cleburne Co., Alabama & was of the Baptist faith. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the Army Corp of Engineers in the Division that erected pontoon bridges for deployment of troops & equipment. He was retired from the Jefferson-Smurfit Corporation. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sarah Helen Lanning Barker and a son, Alan Scott Barker. Surviving are, Sons & Daughters in law, Michael & Susan Barker and Jerry (Roundman) & Teal Barker, all of Cedartown. His Brother, Hershel Barker of Pikesville, Kentucky. Seventeen Grandchildren, Sixteen Great Grandchildren, Nieces & Nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Alvin P. Barker will be conducted on Monday February 4, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Diggs officiating. Interment will follow in the Polk Memory Gardens with Full Military Honors conducted by the Brewster-Cleveland Post 86 Honor Guard. Mr. Barker will Lie in State at the Litesey Funeral Home until the funeral hour. The Family will receive Friends on Sunday night February 3, 2008 from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Litesey Funeral Home. The following Gentlemen have been requested to serve as Pallbearers; Billy Reed, Jerry Sanford, Jeff Brewer, Scottie Lanning, Tony Coburn & Joel Beck. The Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
