Elizabeth was one of eight children born to Robert and Eugenia Harper of Greensboro, Alabama. When she was three years of age, the family moved to Hereford, Texas and later to Roscoe, Texas. In October of 1929, when she was in the 6th grade, the family moved to Lubbock so everyone could attend Texas Tech. The family also joined First United Methodist Church of which she loved and remained a lifetime member.
Elizabeth and her twin brother, Clarence, were in the first class to enter Lubbock High School after its completion. She graduated from Texas Tech with a Commercial Art Degree and a Masters for teaching.
During WWII, she was a draftsman for the Santa Fe Railroad in Slaton and the Texas Highway Dept. in Lubbock.
Elizabeth spent the next 30 years teaching beginning in elementary schools. There were 25 wonderful years as an art teacher at Carroll Thompson Junior High in Lubbock. She finished her teaching career at Martin Elementary. Elizabeth loved her art and teaching her students many different and creative forms of art. She always loved seeing her students in her retirement years.
Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Eugenia Harper; and brothers, Shelby, Durwood, Archie, Carl, Bryan, and Clarence Harper.
She is survived by her daughters, Ruth Florence and Ann Davidson and husband, Richard of Lubbock; sister, Eugenia Cowan; six grandchildren, A.J. Oliver, Philip Oliver, Becky Orta, Richie Davidson, Daniel Davidson, and Elizabeth Davidson; six great grandchildren; and nephews and nieces and their families.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 8, 2008 at First United Methodist Church with Reverends Keith Wiseman and Marisue Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
