Gertrude J Brestel, 79, Dalton, died Wednesday, April 24, 1985 at Memorial Rest Home in Sidney. Funeral will be held at 2pm Monday, at the Dalton Presbyterian Church with the Rev. D. E. Liettrell officiating. Burial will be in the Dalton Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Dalton Presbyterian Church or to the donor's choice.
Gertrude Julia Brestel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jamier Edmund Stevens, was born April 30, 1905 at Polk. She was baptized at the Baptist Church at Polk. She and her mother graduated from the Stromsburg High School at Stromsburg, NE. She married Walter C. Brestel on August 9, 1924 at Sterling, Colorado. To this union, three sons were born, Stanley, Glenn and Walter, Jr. Walter, Jr., was killed in an airplane crash in 1970. She was a member of the Senior Citizens and the American Legion Auxiliary. She helped her husband in their grocery store and Dairy King for a number of years.
Survivors include her son, Stanley Brestel of Dalton and son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Dona Brestel of Columbus, three brothers: Rodney Stevens of Shelton, J. Edmund Stevens of Whittier, CA. and Stanley Stevens of Lodgepole; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and one son.
