Walker McGee, 69, of Starke, died Tuesday morning in a local hospital after an extended illness.

Mr. McGee was born in Chilton County, Alabama on April 5, 1896 and had been a resident of Starke for 26 years. He was a Baptist, a veteran of World War I, and a member of the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Mary KcKelvey McGee; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Louise Rhoden, both of Starke; six sons, James R. of Reno, Nev., Joseph H. and Bert E, both of Starke; Ocie D and Curtis L. both of Hopkinsville, KY; and Chester B. McGee in the U.S. Air Force at Colorado Springs, Colo.; six brothers, Harvey McGee of Tallahassee, and Clayton, Audie, Fed, Lawyer, and Ed McGee all of Alabama; and 13 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Jones Memorial Chapel with Rev. W. A. Hogan, pastor of the Starke First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was in the family plot in Prevatt Cemetery under direction of DeWitt C. Jones Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were members of American Legion Post 56.
