ELEANOR BLANCHE GRAFTON was the third child born to Charles Richard and lyda Eliza (Argenbright) Grafton. Her siblings were Angeline Bell "Angie," (1894-1969), William B., (1895-1968), Carl (1899 - 1986), Mattie (1902-1902) and Pearl (1904 - ?) Grafton. Lyda died unexpectedly on 06 Jan 1907. Charles then married Florence Elizabeth Brown about 1909. They were the parents of at least five known children; Clarence (about 1909 - ?), Archibald Ward "Archie," (1915-1970), Otis Howard (1917 - 2000), Cecilia Mildred (1923-2011), and Ernest Oliver Grafton (1924 - 1944). Charles died in July 1929. Florence is believed to have died in the early 1930s.

According to the 1922 Kansas City, MO city directory, Blanche as she was commonly known, worked as a telephone operator. It was while she was in Kansas City that she met Roy Everett Murphy, an automobile mechanic.

Roy and Blanche were enumerated in the 1930 and 1940 US census reports for Kansas City, MO. They were recorded as being married. However, that wasn't true. Their marriage occurred on 21 Aug 1940 in Sedalia, Pettis, MO almost 100 miles outside of Kansas City. Obviously they wanted to keep their wedding a secret for prying neighbors who had presumed they were married all along.

In 1925, Blanche became afflicted with a motor neuron disease called Bulbar Palsy (MO death certificate). Over time the disease became more severe. She died unexpectedly on 20 Sept 1946. According to the same document, Eleanor Blanche Murphy was interred on 22 Feb 1946 in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. Blanche was born in Onaga, KS to Richard and Lida (Argenbright) Grafton. The informant was Roy Murphy of 3310 Broadway, Kansas City, MO. She was 48y 2m 22 days old.

On 18 Sep 1945, Blanche's half brother, Otis Howard Grafton, filled out his WWII draft registration card. He recorded his next of kin as Miss (sic) Blanche Murphy, sister, who lived at 3310 Broadway, Kansas City, MO.

Roy penned a remembrance poem to his sweet wife published in The Kansas City Star Tribune on 20 Feb 1949. It read; "In sad loving memory of my sweet wife who died three years ago today.
3 years have passed since that sad day,
God took her home - It was His will,
but in broken hearts she liveth still.
She had a smile for every friend,
A heart as pure as gold
to those who knew and loved her best
Her memory will never grow old.
The pain was hard, the shock severe
We never realized her death was near.
So sadly missed by her loving husband, Roy Murphy, relatives and friends."
Their love was strong and endured much, but it still burned fiercely in Roy's heart.
