ERHART, John Franklin "Frank"
b: Jun 31 1880
d: Feb 15 1904, 5 mi NW of Deepwater, Henry Co, MO
bur: Ladue Cemetery, Davis Twp, Henry Co, MO
Clinton MO, Feb 20 1904 - Frank Erhardt, who lived five miles northwest of Deepwater, becoming despondent over the death of his wife, which occurred on the 6th, committed suicide Monday evening. We take the following from the Deepwater World: From the meager facts obtainable, we learn that Mr. Erhardt had left the house about 5 o'clock, taking with him a host gun, saying that he was going down on the creek to kill some ducks. On not returning in a short time, a search was made and soon his lifeless body was found about 200 yards from the house. The supposition is that on coming to a barbed wire fence, he placed the gun on the wire so that the barb would pull the trigger. The full charge of shot took effect in his side and death must have been instantaneous. The unfortunate man's wife died about two weeks ago and it is the belief of all that brooding over her death caused him to decide on killing himself. At the time of her death, we are told, he made the remark that he would not be here very long. He had previously written a note telling of what disposition to be made of his property and for his sister to take charge of the infant child. the deceased was the son of Paul Erhardt and wife and his death is to be regretted by all. He will be buried by the side of his wife in LaDue Cemetery.

Thanks to Deb Poe for adding the wedding photo of Frank and Millie. She also provided the following summary:
"Frank and Millie lived about 2 1/2 miles northwest of Deepwater, Missouri in Henry County.
After Millie died Frank was staying with his sister and her husband (Ellsworth and Lizzie Cromer). The Cromers lived about 1/2 mile from Frank 's parents-Philip and Agnes Erhart. Frank was unable to endure the loss of his wife (and a daughter who died the year before) who died shortly after giving birth to their son-Robert William Erhart, who was born Jan. 28th 1904. Frank died from a gun shot. He told his father and mother that he was going to creek to see if he could shoot a duck. It was clearly premeditated for in his pocket they found a small book where he had written telling of what should be done with his property, and for his sister, Mrs. Lizzie (Erhart) Cromer to take charge of his infant son Robert. Robert was adopted by the Cromer Family."

From 1880 census, Bear Creek, Henry CO: ERHART Philip/36/MO., Agnes/33, William/10, George/9, Augusta/7, Elizabeth/6, Amelia/3, Ida/2, Frank/5M
