"Thomas S. Hudson was born in Huntington Co., Penn, on June 26,1808. At some unknown date his parents moved to Portage Co., Ohio. He married Susannah Nutt on Feb 11,1829 and they set up their home in Portage Co., where 3 of their children were born.

Sometime between the bith of their son John in 1837 and the birth of their son James, in 1984, they moved to Adams Co., Illinois where they settled down on Sec 16; P.O. Loraine, Adams Co., Illinois and raised a family of 9. In 1879, 8 of these chidren were living.

Thomas taught the first school in the old school house on Section 16. He was an active citizen, running a farm and mill, making all kinds of lumber and meal. He owned 247 acres of land (worth $9800), held office of School Director for 16 yr, Justice of the peace for 8 yr and served in other local offices.

Thomas' will was probated on May 3, 1898. He was 85 yr old of age and living in Keen Township when he died. His will was dated Nov 20,1893 and witnessed by James R Nutt and Etta Nutt of Loraine." (S.F. ~1996)
