Joey Don Large was born on June 19, 1955, in Imperial, Nebraska. After suffering a stroke, he went to his Heavenly home on October 20, 2022.

Joey was the first-born son to Marvin and Arlene (Kennedy) Large and the oldest of five children. He grew up in the Blanche Community until he graduated from Imperial High School in 1973. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and graduated with a degree in Agriculture Economics. While at UNL, he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity where he earned the nickname "Charge".

Joey moved to Hayes Center following his college graduation for his first job at First National Bank. On May 19, 1979, he married Myra (Felzien), and they were blessed with three children: Andrea, Stacy and Ryan. They resided in Hayes Center and rural Hayes County before moving to Wauneta in 2006.

Throughout his 42-year banking career, he worked for five banks but two locations (he hated bank mergers). When not busy working his "banker hours", he also sold insurance and real estate. Joey believed in supporting local and serving where you live. He taught Sunday School for decades and coached softball for 27 years. He was on many boards, including Hayes County Ag Society, Hayes Center Village Board, Hayes County Community Foundation, Hayes Center Senior Center Board, Low Income Housing, Hayes Center Cemetery Board, Union Congregational Church Board, Wauneta Senior Center Board, 2019 Cattleman's Ball of Nebraska, and the Wauneta Chamber Board.

He was a banker by trade, but a cattleman by heart. He used his day job to support the success of his customers. He worked diligently to serve people and help them manage the financial side of agriculture. He loved everything cattle and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren show livestock. Blessed with 5 grandchildren, he enjoyed sharing his hobbies of reading, playing catch, watching western movies and cheering on the Huskers with them. His newest and best hobby was supporting the grandchildren's activities.

In 2017, Joey received a live donor kidney transplant at UNMC. He lived an additional five years after the transplant because of the unselfishness of many people, especially Tim Nowak. There are so many people waiting for a kidney. Please consider becoming a live donor.

Survivors include: wife of 43 years Myra, daughter Andrea (Kip) Richards of Hayes Center, Stacy (Mark) Schleusener of Lincoln and Ryan of Enders. Grandchildren: Keenan, Hayley & Sadie Richards and Aubrey & Levi Schleusener. Siblings: Kevin Large, Dean Large, Dale (Elisa) Large, Regina (Stuart) Pederson. In-Laws: Marla (John) Wilkinson, Marcia (Ken) Mortensen, Murleen (Denny) Bellinger. Aunts: Lela Hamilton, Charlotte Large, Peggy (Bernard) Christner.

Preceded in death by his father and mother, Marvin & Arlene Large, father and mother-in-law, Ward and Eva Felzien, sisters-in-law, Sylvia Large, Sandy Large and Jan Large.

Funeral Services for Joey will be held Thursday morning, October 27, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. (MT), at the United Methodist Church, Imperial, NE, with Pastor Debra Copple officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, NE. Visitation will be held Wednesday afternoon, October 26, 2022, 4:00-7:00 p.m. (MT), at the Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta, NE.
