Mr. Neill Mills Carson, Jr., 85 of Gastonia passed away February 4, 2008 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

Born December 6, 1922 in Gaston County, he was a son of the late Niell Mills Carson, Sr. and Ethel Smith Carson; he was founder, president and CEO of Carson Machine Company, Inc. for 41 years. in Gastonia. Mr. Carson was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bessemer City where he served as a district trustee, delegate to conference, former Sunday school teacher and numerous other committees. Mr. Carson was a graduate of Gastonia High School and BOK Vocational school of Philadelphia. He was a former Gaston County Commissioner, and a 60 year member of the Whetstone Masonic Lodge # 515, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 263 and the White Shrine. Mr. Carson was also a member of the Gastonia Rotary Club, Bessemer City American Legion Post 243, Bessemer City Lions Club where he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow. He was also in the US Army during WWII and was stationed in Aberdeen, Maryland and was an instructor.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margorie Lutz Carson.

Mr. Carson is survived by his wife of 13 years, Patricia Beam Carson; a son and daughter-in-law, Neill M. Carson III & Beth of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Donna Carson of Atlanta, Georgia; four sons and daughters-in-law, Reggie and Phebe Beam. Stan and Melissa Beam, Ed Beam and Kelly Beam all of Cherryville; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be 3:00 PM, Tuesday February 5, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Bessemer City with the Rev. Tim Taylor and Rev. Eric Pfeifer officiating. Burial will follow the service in Westview Gardens in Bessemer City.

The family will receive friends from 1:45 to 2:45 PM on Tuesday at First United Methodist Church. At other times the family will be at the home in Gastonia.
