A graveside service for Dewaine Lavon McKinney, Sr. will be held Saturday February 9, 2008, 10:30 a.m., at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd. Pastor Milt Cole and the Associated Kern County Veterans to officiate. Dewaine was born to Helen Daniels November 10, 1933 and passed away Monday night after a lengthy illness. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1954 where he served as a baker aboard the U.S.S. Proton. When he made his home in Bakersfield he began his lifelong career with United Parcel. United Parcel was Dewaine's livelihood, he enjoyed his customers and they loved him. He leaves behind to treasure his memory, two sons, Dewaine and Roy McKinney; three daughters and their families, Leigh Ann and Dwayne Howell, (Hillary, Heather, Holly), Lauri and Allen Gregory (Alex), Lanita and David Moler (Destiny, Jared, Stevi); a sister, June Haefele and husband, Joe; a brother, Roy Castle; loving friend, Linda Wooley; granddaughters, Amanda and Kacie, many great- grandchildren and friends. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for all who cared for him so lovingly. Special thanks to Laura, Desiree, and Frances from Hoffmann Hospice and the entire staff of Valley Convalescent Hospital.
