James J. Bonnici passed away at Oakleigh of Macomb Senior Living on Thursday, October 6, 2022 shortly after his 93rd birthday.

James was born on September 14, 1929 in Hazel Park, Michigan. He was the son of Joseph and Jean (Buttigieg) Bonnici. James served in the United States Army and the Army Reserves during the Korean War from 1948-1954. On February 19, 1955, he married Shirley Hebel in Hazel Park. James was a pipefitter for the UAW, earning his apprenticeship with Chrysler and then working for 30 years at GM Research in the Tech Center in Warren, Michigan shortly after it opened. He followed that with 40 years of retirement, during which he owned multiple rental properties, while enjoying activities of boating, fishing, hunting but especially golfing, which he continued up until the age of 90. James will be greatly missed by his family.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; sister, Josephine Rizzo and parents.

Visitation for James will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Hauss-Modetz Funeral Home, 47477 Romeo Plank, Macomb. The funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. with military honors to follow. James will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at a later date.
