Carl was the 4th generation "Carl" to farm the home farm in Westfield township, and spent his entire life there, with the exception of the last 6+ years where he called Our House Assisted Living in Reedsburg home. At the age of 24 his grandfather and father both died, leaving him with a farm to run, a house half built, a 2nd child on the way and his mother to provide for. Early on he had to be the decision maker, and there was only one way to do things. He was a dairy farmer, and worked hard growing crops, fixing machinery, and caring for the animals. He loved to milk cows. Carl was an avid reader. He loved history and reading about historical figures and was blessed to still be able to read into his 90's. He would proudly tell you that he had voted in every presidential election he was able to and only voted for a winner once. Carl was a great storyteller of local and family history. He loved to visit with people.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Norene in 2020, his brother John, age 5, in 1943, his great grandson Ethan Turner and his sister-in-law Carol Myers.
Survivors include his children, JoEllen Koenig Schreier (now known as Grace Goodenough), Manhattan, Kansas, Carl Bruce (Laura) Koenig, Loganville, Kathleen (Richard) Price, Lone Oak, Texas and Ann Koenig (husband Gordon Muck), Corning NY. 12 grandchildren, 31 great grand children and 4 great great grandchildren, his brother-in-law Harvey Myers, nephews David and Darrell, and niece Audrey as well as their families.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 2 at 11 AM at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Rock Springs. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 1 from 4 to 7 PM at Grasse Funeral Service in Reedsburg. We are incredibly grateful for the care both Carl and Norene received while living at Our House, the place they referred to as home very quickly after moving there. They said many times "they take really good care of us here". There really is something special about people who care for others. Thanks also to Dr. Spencer Fast for his care and Agrace Hospice for guiding us through Carl's final days.
