_______________

Issac Black, son of James and Eleanor Black, was born 1 July 1789 in Madison County, KY.

He is probably the 16-26 year old male living with his mother, Eleanor Simpson, after her third marriage to James Simpson, a Presbyterian minister. (Nuptials recorded 8 March 1808, Marriage Book "A", Madison County, KY) Simpson died 1810. Eleanor is listed as a "Free White Female over 45", and Isaac is listed as a "Free White Male 16 to 25." Isaac would have been about 21 years of age.

In 1810 Isaac sold his share of his father's estate to his brother, John, for the sum of 45 pounds. (Madison County Deed Book "R", p 132.)

Sometime between 1810-1820, Isaac emigrated from Kentucky to Boone County, MO where he married Sarah "Sally" Maupin on 14 July 1820. Letters written by Isaac to his brother John in Kentucky, place him in Boone County on 7 Nov 1820. A letter of 2 September 1822 places him in Calloway County and speaks to a "great stir of religion" in his neighborhood. In July 1821 Isaac helped organize the Cedar Creek Baptist Church of Calloway County, Mo. west of the County of Stephens, near the Boone County line. In a letter of 4 September 1823 he tells John that he and his wife have joined a Baptist Church. He also recommends to David Gass to come to Missouri.

By the mid 1830s he and Sally had settled in Audrain County, MO and reared their family on a farm near Mexico. (David Gass, Jr. and his wife, Mary Black had also settled there.)
Isaac died on 4 September 1864.
