Mrs. Mary Marie Wimberly, age 76, of Sumatra, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at her home in Sumatra, Florida. Marie was born on November 12, 1945 in Eastpoint, Florida, to Lavere and Thelma (Lolley) Walker. She had lived in Sumatra since 1979, coming to Liberty County from Port St. Joe, Florida. Marie worked for 28 years as a lunchroom manager for the Franklin County School System. She enjoyed sitting around the campfire with her friends Fred and Jean Leatherwood, Bill and Carolyn Scott, and Jack Wilder. Marie also loved spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved worshiping the Lord and was a member of Sumatra Baptist Church in Sumatra, Florida. Marie is preceded in death by her parents, her children's father David Barfield, her husband and the love of her life J.Y. Wimberly, and her sister. She is survived by: Sons: Wayne Barfield of Sumatra, FL, Toby Barfield and Lynn of Crawfordville, FL, Daughter: Cheryl Varnes and Don of Sumatra, FL, 1 brother and 3 sisters, 8 grandchildren: Ashley, David, Callie, Charith, Misty, Haley, Teri and Emily, 16 great grandchildren: Hadley, Brantley, Sawyer, Skyler, Theodore, Nathaniel, Abigail, Zoey, Zaden, Zayne, Za'Darion Jr., McKenzie, McKenna, Allie, Aiden, and Addison. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at 10:00 AM CT (DST), 11:00 AM ET (DST) at Peavy Funeral Home Chapel in Blountstown, Florida with Rev. Bill Scott and Rev. Wayne Sumner officiating. Memorialization will be by cremation. A private interment will take place at Sumatra Cemetery at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, Florida.
