D. Hershel Wilson passed away on October 19, 2022 after a full life of love and laughter. He was born in Monroe, Louisiana on June 25, 1948. During his childhood, he was involved in his local church, Boy Scouts, and went on to study at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. He was involved in Kiwanis for many years and led many young men through their Boy Scout journey. He was also fond of traveling, he considered himself a connoisseur of BBQ. Hershel was one of the most giving people, literally giving the shirt off of his back to anyone in need. You would always find him with a trenta black iced tea from Starbucks where he was known by name. He majored in Bible at Harding University and later received his doctorate in theology and went on to preach in Arkansas. It was at Harding University that he met the love of his life, Pat, and they would go on to be married for 52 years. Hershel went on to preach in Banning, California where he later met Ruth McClellan who encourage him to pursue a career in law. He was an attorney at McClellan, Wilson and Patterson Law Firm from 1981-2016. After retirement, he served as an elder at the Beaumont Church of Christ in Beaumont, California while also preaching on occasion. In his later years, one of his favorite things to do was to spend time with his grandchildren and share his travels and life adventures.

Even from a young age, Hershel had the desire to serve those around them. As a young boy, Hershel could often be found working the cotton fields in order to help provide for his family. He would attend Elder and Deacon meetings as a young boy because that was his lifetime goal, to be an Elder of a Congregation. Hershel would often travel to local Churches in order to take the opportunity to preach a message to other Christians.

Hershel loved a good joke. One would have to be careful if telling Hershel, a joke while eating a meal together as many a times Hershel would laugh so hard that he might spew his Diet Coke or Tea on whoever was in front of him. The snake in a can or spider in a box gift often had Hershel crying tears of laughter. Whenever Hershel would tell a joke, he often started laughing before he could even reach the punch line leaving you hanging but still in laughter.

Hershel's earned numerous degrees in his lifetime of learning. He earned a BA in Bible from Harding University, MA in Biblical Studies and Pastoral Counseling from Harding Graduate School, MS in Counseling from Arkansas State at Conway, and a Doctorate in Law from Western State University.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Wilson, his sisters Wyvonne Watson, Glenda Watson, and Onnie Dixon. He is survived by his loyal wife, Pat Wilson, his son David Wilson (Kinza Wilson) and their children Aurora, Madysin, and Hunter, and his daughter Allyson Parham (Chris Parham) and children Wilson, Hadley, Kenna, and Kaylee. He is also survived by his sisters Sylvia Prestridge and Peggy Lee.
