Graduated with the U. S Naval Academy class of 1923 and qualified forSubmarine command. As Cptain, USN he was awarded the Navy Cross for his leadership of the submarine wolf pack "Blair's Blasters" thay operated with great effect against enemy shipping in the region of the Marianas Islands.
