* Nov 9, 2022 - There has been much speculation on Polly Bray/Mary Lambert. Are they the same person or two different? After many years of researching, here's my conclusion, they are in fact the same person.
So, the next question would be; why two different names?
Polly was a typical nickname for Mary.
The assumption on Bray vs Lambert is Mary Polly was married twice - one of these is her true maiden name and the other is her 1st husband's name. More research needs to be done to sort this out.
Now my personal assumption is; Lambert is her true maiden name and Bray was her 1st husband's name. You ask why? Well, when she married Loyd Foushee, the courts would've used her legal name. Loyd Foushee married Polly Bray. They normally would not revert back to a maiden name. She would've been a respectable widow. Therefore, my assumption is she was born Mary "Polly" Lambert. She married a Mr Bray, who died. She then married Loyd Foushee.

* Mar 27, 2023 UPDATE – Proof has been found! Mary "Polly's" maiden name is Lambert. She is named in her mother's Estate papers as a daughter along with her husband as "Mary wife of Loyd Foushee" along with her surviving siblings, their spouses, and her deceased sibling's spouses and heirs. She is also named in the many subsequent lawsuits as "Polly wife of Loyd Foushee" and as "Mary wife of Loyd Foushee" along with her sibling's as "children of John and Mary Lambert". It took from the time of her father's death in 1840 to her mother's death in 1858 plus another 10 years (1868) 26 years in total to finally resolve all the conditions of her father's Will and the many lawsuits between the children and heirs!

Now that this part of the "mystery" surrounding Mary/Polly Lambert/Bray, I will research to see if I can find the name of her first husband Mr. Bray and his connection, if any, to Eli Bray a witness at her marriage to Loyd Foushee. If you discover his name, please send me a message! Thanks.

** According to my Grandfather Foushee, it was customary for the wealthy and large land owner Foushee's (the Gentlemen) to be buried on their property in family plots vs in a cemetery. After Loyd Foushee died deep in debt and everything was sold that custom unfortunately changed and my direct-line Foushee ancestors started to be buried in cemeteries. Properties eventually changed hands and new owners did not respect the family plots and the graves have been lost to time. Loyd Foushee was the last of the Foushee's to be buried on his property. Mary "Polly predeceased Loyd.
