Leroy Johnson

Gloucester - A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church, Sassafras, for Leroy Johnson, 74, of 61 South Ave., Newport News, who died Monday in a Newport News hospital.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The Rev. H. A. Hill Jr. of Newport News will officiate, assisted by the Rev. William R. Jones of Richmond.

Mr. Johnson, a native of Gloucester, was a retired employee of the Naval Weapons Station. He had resided on the Peninsula for the past five years.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Edith Green Johnson of Newport News; a son, Marshall Johnson of Long Island, N.Y.; four daughters, Mrs. Mildred Davenport and Mrs. Catherine Ellison of Philadelphia, Mrs. Ruth Palmer of Long Island, N.Y., and Mrs. Sadie Cook of Bellamy; two step-daughters, Mrs. Pearl Louise Borum of Hayes and Mrs. Dorothy Skeeters of Newport News; eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The body will be at Howard's Funeral Home, Ark, until 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
