Shirley Ann Kemp Hendricks was born August 24, 1935 at Desert, Texas and went to be with her savior Jesus Christ on November 8, 2022. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Charles Dale Hendricks and her parents, Clifford H. Kemp and Virgie Velma Nix Kemp; sisters, Johnnie Frances Hendricks and Paula Jean Stephenson. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Farmersville.

She is survived by her three children, daughter, Phyllis Palasota and husband Anthony; son, Clinton Dale Hendricks; daughter, Charlsie James and husband Dave; as well as grandchildren Daniel James and wife Davina, Derrick James and wife Meegyn, Stefanie Palasota and husband, Tony; Monica Kennedy and husband Eric, Grant Hendricks, Leslie Duke, Dustin James and wife Heather. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Sam, Will, and Ava Palasota; Taylor, Grace, and Dallas James, Peyton James, Slater and Allie James, George Duke, and Declan James. In addition, there are numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and many close friends.

As a young girl, Shirley grew up on her parents farm just west of Blue Ridge. She loved to be outside working side by side with her Daddy. She often told stories of the many good times they shared together. The Kemp family were some of the first settlers at Snow Hill just north of Farmersville and Shirley took pride in being a long time member of the Snow Hill Cemetery Association where most of the Kemp family is buried. Shirley's great grandfather's house located at Snow Hill has been designated as a Collin County historical marker and is beautifully maintained and lived in by the Kemp family descendants to this day.

After graduating Blue Ridge High School in 1953, Shirley went on to pursue her degree at North Texas State University majoring in Elementary Education. She first met her husband, Charles, at her older sister's wedding. They began dating and were married April 14, 1956. At the time of Charles' death in 2010, the two had been married for 54 years.

In addition to rearing her three children, Shirley had a long and distinguished career as an elementary teacher where she taught mostly fourth grade at Melissa and Princeton school districts. When she was not at school, you could always find her in the kitchen cooking her famous pies and cakes or out on the farm helping Charles. Hard work was not something she shied away from, a trait she learned early as a young girl.

She was loved by her family and all that knew her; admired for being an independent woman achieving her degree and having a career during an era when most women stayed at home. Not only did she achieve a successful career but also instilled in her family and those that knew her to put God first, then others, and self last. Her priorities were always in that order. She was selfless and always gave her best in everything she set out to accomplish. God has received a new angel, and although we are sad to say goodbye, we are thankful for her life and legacy.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 11, 2022 from 6 to 8 pm at Hurst's Fielder Baker Funeral Home, Farmersville, Texas. The Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church Farmersville with Bro. Bart Barber, Bro. Tracy Odneal and Bro. James Cheesman officiating.
