National Castings retiree of Sharon had 63 survivors
Mass of Christian burial will be Monday for Patrick James Whalen, 58 Forker Place, Sharon. He died at 10:25 p.m. Wednesday (2-21-01) in his home after an extended illness. He was 71.
Mr. Whalen was born July 14, 1929, in Sharon to Joseph J. and Hazel King Whalen.
He attended Sacred Heart and Sharon schools.
Mr. Whalen retired in 1983 after 20 years from the former National Castings Division of Midland-Ross Corp., Sharon, for which he was an "A" millwright. He was previously employed by the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp.; and Shenango Furnace, Sharpsville.
An Army veteran, Mr. Whalen served as a private during the Korean conflict.
He was a member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon.
As a hobby, Mr. Whalen enjoyed talking on his citizen's band radio, using the handle, The Green Shamrock."
He was an avid roller skater and liked to go camping.
Mr. Whalen enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are: his wife, the former Donna Anderson, whom he married Sept. 5, 1953; eight daughters, Mrs. Robert (Colleen) Eskridge, Pampa, Texas; Mrs. Shawn (Faith Eileen) Fedor and Mrs. Will (Donna "DeeDee" D.) Drake, both Slippery Rock; Mrs. Lynn (Michaeleen) Miller, Sharon; Mrs. William (Laureen) Brown, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Robert (Janeen) Mancino, Hermitage; Mrs. Daniel (Bernadeen "Birdie") Smith, Sharpsville; and Patricia "Kiki" Whalen, at home; six sons, Patrick S. and Frederick J. Whalen, both Sharon; Daniel P. Whalen, Warren, Ohio; John Jarrett K. and Terence A. Whalen, both Mercer; and Brian W.T. Whalen, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Mary Ellen) Helinski, Parma, Ohio; and Anna Mae Munson, Farrell; 45 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Denni K. Whalen; a sister, Agnes Eileen Whalen; six brothers, Joseph, John, Robert, James, Harold and William Whalen; and two grandchildren, Brent Brown and Julia Drake.
