Lillian Allen Tuttle, 94, of Asheville, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004.

Mrs. Tuttle was born October 21, 1910, in Durham and was a daughter of the late Thomas Ellis Allen and Hallie Moore Allen. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert Gregory Tuttle, who died in 1999, a daughter, Kathleen Allen Tuttle Boone, and brothers and sisters Irving Allen, George Venable Allen, Thomas E. Allen, Jr., Zalene Allen Angier and Inez Allen Icenogle.

Mrs. Tuttle attended Sullins College in Bristol, VA and continued her education at Duke University where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She and Dr. Tuttle were married December 24, 1932, at her home in Durham.

Over the years she was a devoted wife assisting her husband in his many appointments in the United Methodist Church. Their appointments included Mount Airy, Belmont, Gibsonville, Elkin, Sylva, Forest City, Statesville, Charlotte, Hickory, and other appointments as a District Superintendent. In 1978 they moved to their retirement home on Sunset Mountain, Asheville, where they lived until they moved to Givens Estates. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Tuttle moved to Florida to be with her daughter. She returned last January to Asheville and lived at the Brooks-Howell Home until her death.

Surviving are one daughter, Dr. Elizabeth(Betty)Tuttle Newman and her husband Harry Alexander Newman of Brevard; a son, Dr. Robert Gregory Tuttle, Jr. and his wife Dianne of Asheville and Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Beth Carter and Laura Harmon of Statesville, Tempe Hickman of Boone, Jane MacKinnon of Wareham, Mass., Lee Boone of High Point, Greg Boone of Ft. Payne, Ala., Julie Mata and Kathy Foster of Charlotte, Elizabeth Tuttle of Nashville, TN, and Eric Tuttle of San Francisco, CA; sixteen great-grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.

Interment will be at Littlejohn United Methodist Church Cemetery in the Gamewell Community of Lenoir.
