Doug grew up in Oregon, Washington, and Alaska and graduated from McLoughlin High School in Milton-Freewater, Oregon. He proudly served in the United States Navy. On March 20, 2004, he married the love of his life Shirley Hunter Durling in Maui, Hawaii. Doug worked in Prudhoe Bay oil fields for 30 years. Most recently, he was the District Manager of Alaska for Torcsill. After recently living in Arizona and Alaska, Doug moved to Colorado earlier this year. He was a member of Kingdom Life Church in Alaska and the Upper Room in Denver. Doug loved to laugh, was a jokester, was very kind and generous man, a man with integrity, and had a huge loving heart. He loved to travel, camp, and fish. He enjoyed wood working, cooking, especially smoking meats on the Traegar and photography.

Doug is survived by his wife Shirley of Greeley, Colorado; his children, Nicole Cady and husband John of Idaho, Michael Durling of Phoenix, Arizona, Jordan Durling of Wasilla, Alaska and MacKenzie Barnes of Greeley, Colorado; his siblings, Darrell Barnes and wife Debbie of Walla Walla,Washington, Dale Barnes and Pam of Walla Walla, Washington, Dean Barnes of Mexico, and Donna Karrels and husband Scott of Milton-Freewater, Oregon; and 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Darlene Barnes, and his siblings Debbie Mills and Dennis Barnes.

Services will be held November 12, 2022, 12 Noon at Kingdom Life Church in Anchorage, Alaska. Interment will be held at Fort Richardson National Cemetery Monday November 14, 2022, at 2:30 p.m.
