Born on August 3, 1942, in Baltimore, Maryland. She was raised by her parents, Anna Joyce Ellis Sherwood and Luis G. Sanchez, along with her siblings Melanie Claire Shipley, Craig Stewart Shipley, and J. Luis Sanchez. She married her eternal sweetheart of 40 years, James Curtis Day.
She attended art school in Southern California. She was Miss Gardena and second runner-up to Miss California. She lived in Maryland and moved to California when she was young, where she said she "had finally come home." She worked for the University of Utah for years. She was an avid quilter, knitter, watercolorist, and costume creator. We always called her The Pumpkin Queen. She lived outside the box, being a race-car-driver and a beauty-queen. Her love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and service to her peers made her beloved by many. She found a giggle in all of life.
