Mr. Johann Ihlenfeldt, an old, well known and highly respected resident of Springfield, residing with his son, Mr. Louis Ihlenfeldt, died at 10:30 o'clock Sunday night, from the effects of a fall from the porch sustained on last Friday. Mr. Ihlenfeldt was born on Jan. 10, 1810, in Germany, and came to this country in 1874, settling in Springfield. He is survived by his wife and six sons: Frederick, William and Louis, residing in this city, August and Adolph, residing in Bloomington, and Herman Ihlenfeldt, residing in Niantic. The funeral will occur this afternoon from St. John's German Lutheran church. - IL State Register, Springfield, IL, 7-28-1891
Johann was a miller by trade and worked at that calling until his later years, when he retired from business life. He and his wife then came to America to visit their children, with whom they resided until called to their final rest. Both died at the home of their sons in Springfield.
