PIONEER RESIDENT OF NEEDLES IS CLAIMED

Needles, May 13---Charles Howard Burt,pioneer resident of Needles,passed away at his home Friday, May 9,following complications of age.
Born in Selma,Ala., in 1870 he went to Ashfork,Ariz.,with his parents in 1882 and at the age of 15 worked on the building of the Ashfork,Prescott and Phoenix railway.
In 1894 he hired as a fireman for the Santa Fe at Williams,Ariz. and in 1897 was promoted to engineer. In this year the division was changed to Seligman,Ariz.,and one of the four engineman to go to the Arizona division,he ran the first switch engine to the new division point.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers,Needles lodge no. 383 with 45 years standing membership and past chief engineer of 1922.
He also served on the city council in 1915 and was a member of the Elks lodge.
Retired from railroad service in 1928 he took a great interest in miming and was a self-made mining engineer.
Besides his widow he is survived by four sons,Louis,Willis,Charles Jr. and Albert Burt;two daughters,Mrs. George Clous,Needles,and Mrs. Curtis Layden,Los Angeles; and nine grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters and one brother,Mrs. Julia Ettinger of Des Moines,Iowa,who is in Needles for the funeral,and Mrs. Jennie Pentland,Miss Daisy Burt and Earl Burt all of Los Angeles.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Elks home and burial was at Riverview cemetery
