Brenda Baggett Perkins, 62, of Hastings, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine after a short illness.

Brenda was a native of Palatka and a lifelong resident of Hastings. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. A proud wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt and friend, she was a talented seamstress. She loved music, nature, sewing and cooking and could always be found doing something for others. Her giving spirit was only exceeded by her love for her family who will cherish their memories of her forever.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, G.L. and Mildred Sweat, and her brother, Buddy Sweat.

She is survived by her loving husband, Sam Perkins, who made her last months on earth some of the most precious months she ever lived. Also surviving are children and spouses, Robin and Dale Barnes, Gail Baggett and Kevin Tenney, John and Robin Baggett, Sandy and Nick Scapellati and Millie and Lawrence Masters; stepson and spouse, Jay and Jackie Perkins; grandchildren and spouses, Dixie and D.L. Barnes, Boe Holley and Johnny Joyner, Melissa and Josh Carter and Toni Tenney, Brittaney Baggett, Madison Baggett, Mia Scapellati, Collin Scapellati, Tyler Scapellati, Alexander Masters, Morgan Masters, Lara Masters, Junior Perkins, Ryan Perkins, Chris Perkins and Mike and Melissa Perkins; great-granddaughter, Erin Carter; sister, Bessie Sweat Baggett and spouse, Calvin; brothers and spouse, Roger Sweat and Van and June Sweat. She was blessed with a large extended family who she loved very much. Brenda was especially close to her nephews and their children, Bill and Teresa Sweat, Zachary Gurthie, Zeth and Alexis Sweat, Steve Sweat and Charlotte Tilton, Courtni and Camden Sweat and Ethan and Mason Tilton; her niece, Barbara Ward and Ashton and Clayton Ward who she loved as her own children and grandchildren. Special friends include Patsy Sweat, KristiAnn Sweat, Troy Ward, Melissa Baggett, Aaron Baggett, Jennifer and Pepper Mahr and Hailey.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with the Rev. Michael Baggett officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill West Cemetery in Palatka.
