Died, at the residence of her son, L. M. Babb, in Pawnee, at 1 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 1895, of old age, Mrs. Abigail Meader Babb, aged 96 years. Mrs. Babb was born Jan. 4, 1799, in Rochester, N.H. Her husband died about 1850, and in 1855 she came to Pawnee and has since made her home with her son, L. M. Babb who is her only surviving child.
She also leaves one brother and one sister living near Rochester, N. H. Her sister, Viana, is the widow of James Bodge, of Pawnee, now deceased, for many years a general merchant there. Her brother is Ephraim Meader. She leaves five surviving grandchildren, all children of L. M. Babb. They are Mrs. M.W. Colean, of Pawnee; Dr. Albert Babb of this city; Mrs. W. T. Barker, of Peoria; Miss Addie H. Babb, a graduate of the Chicago Female Medical college, now a part of the Northwestern University, and who now has charge of a ward in the Cook county hospital, and Miss Francina Babb, a graduate of the musical department of Lincoln university and who is now residing at home.
Mrs. Babb was a woman of great literary knowledge, and was an assidious reader up to the time of her death. The New England poets were her favorite authors.
The funeral occurred Friday from the residence of L. M. Babb. The remains were interred in Oak Ridge cemetery yesterday.
