Leroy Anderson passed into God's hands on Monday. He was born in Niota, Tenn., graduated from McMinn County High School and was a lieutenant in the Army Air Corps at the end of World War II. He graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College, Athens, Tenn., and Georgetown College, Georgetown, Ky. He went on to teach and coach football, baseball and girls basketball at McMinn County High School, Lake City High School, Sarasota High School and Tennessee Wesleyan College. Leroy was a three-term city councilman and twoterm Mayor of Athens, Tenn., during the 1960s. He was the Daily Post Athenian's Man of the Year in 1960. Leroy went on to a career with the Economic Development Administration in Huntsville and Atlanta. He was a club champion at Springbrook Golf & Country Club, Niota, and was a member of Berkley Hills Club, Duluth, Ga. Survivors include his sons and their wives, Scott and Brenda Anderson and Steve and Anna Anderson of Franklin, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Lars, Lizanna, Virginia and Peyton Anderson; and his longtime sweetheart, Ann Tafoya, and her loving family, Amy, Beth, Chuck, Lisa, Cynthia. He was preceded in death by Mary Ann Brownlow Anderson.
