Melvin H. Loomer, 1849-1928
Melvin H. Loomer, 79, a resident of Waterloo, Iowa, for the past 43 years, died at 1:30 a.m., Dec. 20, 1928, of influenza and complications at the St. Francis Hospital, Waterloo.
Mr. Loomer was born in Hart Prairie, Walworth County, Wis., on June 18, 1848. At an early age, he came with his family to Marengo, Ill., where he worked on this father's 500-acre farm. In 1871 he entered the University of Illinois, where he studied for two years. He then went to the B.M. Worthington Business College at Madison, Wis.
In 1874, Mr. Loomer went to Waverly, Iowa, where he engaged in various vocations, including the jewelry business, until 1885 when he moved to Waterloo. In that same year he was married to Frances E. Beebe, daughter of William Beebe of that city. He was in the jewelry business in Waterloo until 10 years ago.
Mrs. Loomer died in 1920 after a long period of invalidism, during her husband gave her the most devoted and untiring care, and on Nov. 21, 1922, he was married to Celia M. (Alcott) Herring.
Surviving are the widow, now ill at the St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo of neuritis and diabetes; a daughter, Mrs. Peal Frahm, 327 Clay Street, Waterloo; and three brothers, L.S. Loomer of New York, P.D. Loomer of Leadville, Colo., and A.E. Loomer of Bellingham, Wash.
Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Waterloo.
