It is with sadness that our family relates the passing of Iris Turner Frank on November 25,2022.
Mary Iris Turner was born in Parrish, FL the great grand-daughter of Parrish and Bradenton founder William I. Turner. She is the daughter of William S Turner, Sr and Gussie Waldron Turner and benefited there from the friendship of many cousins and relations as a child.
Iris Turner attended Palmetto High School then Manatee High, FSU then transferred to the University of Georgia, majoring in Interior Design. While never working in Design as a career, her home was the showplace of her eye for decorating and her sewing skills. While in Georgia, she met Gene Skeim of Crookston MN, married in Palmetto, and served her country as a military spouse at the Lake Charles, Louisiana AFB. A dedicated stay-at-home mother, she focused her life on bringing up her two sons to value integrity, to show respect for all, and to hold equality for women in all things to be important. In later years, her substantial disability due to migraine headaches subsided. She worked in real estate and finally with her brother, Broker William S. Turner, Jr., in Sarasota. She was active in political campaigns and supported the Boy Scout activities of her sons as well as being a founding member of Friendly City Chapter of Sweet Adeline's (barbershop harmony chorus), family history and the UDC.
Her optimism, enthusiasm, and smile for all were well known. Never demanding a leadership role in organizations, but always demanding a large part of the work of any project she was involved with. After the loss of her husband to cancer at 45 years old, she married her high school sweetheart Lou Frank after 50 years. They enjoyed life in Atlanta. She returned home to Tampa Bay after his passing. In her last years, Dementia hampered her abilities but she always recognized her family and remained her caring and gregarious self. Her lifelong example of meeting challenges with determination, optimism and accomplishment with her smile and loving heart are her legacy to us all. She lost her daughter, Jeana Evelyn at six months old. Survivors include son, Jeffrey Turner Skeim (64) Miriam Floyd Skeim of Clearwater, Dana Turner Skeim (62) and Dorcas Pickera Skeim of Bradenton; granddaughters, Laura Nikkolina Benfield and David Benfield of Jacksonville; Elissa Victoria Graves and Kyle Graves of Denver; Elena Dánae Skeim of Bradenton and grandson, Ethan K. Skeim of Tampa; great-grandson, Nalan Turner Graves and great-granddaughter, Irie Fae Hooey-daughter of Elena. She also leaves a brother, William S. Turner, Jr. and cousins, nieces and nephews. Graveside Service will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Parrish Cemetery 12305 Parrish Cemetary Rd, Parrish, FL 34219. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory, 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West Bradenton, FL 34209 is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be made to: www.brownandsonsfuneral.com
