Chuck told how his family line had moved to Cookeville, Tennessee, then onto Texas, Pawhuska and Henryetta, Oklahoma; landing in California, where he was born. He grew up with three brothers and a sister. They were all musically gifted. Chuck played the piano, sang in a few gospel quartets in and around southern California, and was in the marching band as were his twin brothers. Judy, his sister, sang in a large choir in D. C.

Chuck wrote: "We were in Monte Vista and Alamosa, CO when I was 9 and 10. Dad was right out of Bible School and that is where they sent him for his first pastorate. He was also a disc jockey on KGIW radio to pay some of the bills and for his 15 minute radio show every Saturday night.

Dad got his degree from LIFE Bible college and he was a Foursquare Preacher 'til the day he died in 1973. Mom died two years later. Dad was 63 and mom was 59....kind of young. I got my degree in the school knocks, on the countries highways. I was a big rig operator for about 49 years, with the first 5 in a bus, both for San Diego Transit, and LAMTA, with a couple years for Continental Trailways. At the age of 71, I had had enough of the politics in CA and moved to KY where we are now. Warm to cold....I don't know what got into me. Lol"

Charles Ray Pippin married Linda Sue Gadberry August 31, 1958, in Hemet, Riverside, California. They had a daughter and two sons. Scott preceded him in death. The marriage ended in divorce April 1969, in Riverside County, California. Linda married Wendell Gene "Swede" Larson.

He married Carol Jean (Williams) Wray December 26, 1970, in San Diego, San Diego, California. A son, Kenneth Martin Pippin, who was born January 22, 1976, in Huntington Beach, Orange, California, preceded them in death September 26, 2010. Chuck adopted Carol's son from a previous marriage and added two other sons to the family.

Additional memories he shared: "We (he and Carol) spent 7 years in Las Vegas and left for a trip to Alaska with my wife's sister and brother in law. When we got back we moved to CA to be with our oldest son, who's wife had contracted MS and we wanted to be near her 'just in case.' In 2004, he got a transfer to Columbia, KY and moved his family here. I was still working so my wife and our next oldest son helped him move. While they were here, the next oldest fell in love with the place and bought a business on the internet and moved the following January. We babysat the oldest's house in CA until it sold a year later. Then we moved. We found a great place on an acre with a separate garage which I used as a wood shop, and we paid only $77,000. Far cry from CA, where an acre would sell for over a mil. 3 years later our youngest moved here and we had all our grandbabies in one place. Plus, I have a brother in Nashville who has all his grandbabies in one place. A Pippin reunion is a thing to behold. Last year we had Pippins from all over the country here....6 different states....more than 70 of us in all...all three of us brothers and all of mine, and the one from Nashville, and some of the family of the one from CO. (He lives in Loveland) There were also some from our sisters family from Virginia and D. C. She passed in 2010. We had another brother, twin to the one in Nashville, who passed in 2003. Needless to say, we have a large group when they say 'alla y'all.' "

Chuck enjoyed playing Santa Claus well with his full, white beard. He was a great genealogist and shared his research generously. He enjoyed playing games.

In 2019, he spoke fondly of having 9 grandkids whom he loved very much.

Chuck passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack while visiting friends in Surprise, Arizona. He will be greatly missed!
