John Henry Morris Townley arrived in the United States in 1775 in Maryland at the young age of 18. He is shown as the "Primary Immigrant".*
Within a year he married Agnes Peggy Rich of Wake County NC, on 19 Sep 1776 in Granville, NC.**
After serving in the Army of the Maryland line, he was awarded an Army Land Warrant, which was registered under the Acts for regulating the Grants of Land, appropriated for Military Services, (passed the 1st of June 1797 and the 2nd March 1799). The Warrant, No. 11757, dated 19 August 1791, granted him 100 acres of land to be surveyed by the geographer of the U.S.
By 1800 he and Agnes had been married 24 years, had 9 children and lived in the Pendleton District shown on the 1800 census. The oldest child being under 25 years of age and the youngest 4 being under 10 years of age.
In 1810 at age 53 he is still living in the Pendleton District with Agness and 2 daughters and a slave.

His death occured at age 61 and he is buried Flat Rock, Anderson Co. SC.
