James H. Long, 69, Kokomo, passed away at 9:47 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at Sycamore Village Health Care. He was born May 10,1938, in Griffithville, Ark., to Frank James and Edna (McIntire) Long. On April 17, 1960, he married Rosie Maxine (Dickerson) Long, and he survives.
He worked for Kokomo-Center Schools as a crossing guard for 15 years, and for several years before that he worked for the city of Kokomo in the street department.
James was a member of Kokomo Missionary Baptist Church and former member of Fairview Baptist Church. He was an avid Yankee's baseball fan. James loved taking his grandchildren to the park and loved listening to bluegrass music.
He is survived by his wife, Rosie Maxine Long, Kokomo; mother, Edna Long, Kokomo; children, James E. Long, Michael Long, Kim Long, all of Kokomo, Brian K. Long, Tucson, Ariz., and Joseph F. Long, Medford, Ore.; brother, Tom Long and Margaret, Kokomo, Kathy and Bill Jumper, Kokomo, Arretta K. and Gordon Linder, Kokomo; grandchildren, Bryan Long, Katy Long, Alexis Long, Josh Long, Ally Long and Dylan Long.
He was preceded in death by his father and granddaughter, Mikayla Long.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Shirley and Stout Funeral Home, Jefferson Street Chapel, 414 W. Jefferson St., Kokomo, with Pastor Steve Sherwood officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
