Margery "Jerry" Nugent passed away Feb. 13, 2008 in Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital after the leukemia she had fought successfully into remission returned suddenly to take her away.

Born July 25, 1931, in Waltham, Mass., Jerry grew up in Wayland, Mass., graduating from Weston High School in 1950 and Kathleen Dell Business College in 1951. She worked at Bachrach Photography Studios in Boston following her formal education.

Jerry, fondly known to her family and close friends as "Mimi," gave her life to her family and to the military men and the causes they served. She was admired for her charm and social grace, her culinary creations, her self-deprecating style, her joy at having fun with family and friends and her realistic, practical approach to her daily activities.

A New Englander who loved the beach and possessed movie-star good looks, she was generous to a fault and always made birthdays and Christmases special because of her uncanny ability to find the perfect gift. Notorious for always losing her cocktail glass during social gatherings, she nevertheless was happiest when having her family and friends together for even the simplest celebrations. Most of all, she loved her quiet time in the morning with her coffee and newspaper.

She is survived by the father of her three children and friend, retired U.S. Air Force Col. Keith E. McClain of Red Lodge, Mont.; her three children, Susan Koszuta, Matthew McClain and Stuart McClain; and her 10 grandchildren, Tara, Curtis, Morgan, Erin, Sebastian, Carter, Nicholas, Kyle, Sam and Madeleine. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law, Marianne and Debra McClain; and her son-in-law, Donald Koszuta, to whom she expressed great gratitude for years of kindness.

Jerry was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Thompson Morgan and Helen Carter; her two brothers, Allen and Carter; and two husbands, U.S. Air Force Col. John "Jack" C. Fremont III in 1971 and retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. Floyd C. Nugent in 1997.

There will not be a funeral service. The family requests that remembrances of Jerry be made in the form of a donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Sympathy cards can be mailed to the family at Jerry's address: 1000 Southern Points Circle, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. Due to her lifelong fondness for her roots in New England, she requested that she be interred in the Morgan family lot at the Old North Cemetery in Wayland, Mass.
