On Thursday morning January 27, 2005, Larry Joe took his final trip with heaven as his destination. Larry Joseph Windle, 72, was born to O.S. and Charlsie Lee Cofield Windle on May 4, 1932 in Oklahoma City Oklahoma, the 11th of 12 children.

At the age of 15, Joe lied about his age and enlisted in the Army in 1947. He retired in 1978 after tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam. He also served in Japan, Germany and other European countries. After retiring from active military duty, he worked at Tinker AFB and the State of Oklahoma.

Larry Joe married Vera Lou Walker in 1953 and they had two daughters. Vera Lou preceded him in death in 1990. On August 10, 1991 Larry Joe married Betty Sue Loper Jones and graciously accepted two step-children into the family. After retirement, he and Betty loved to travel in their motorhome and spent their winters in Donna, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of the home, Betty, his two daughters, Kathy Whitten and husband Jerry of Bartlett, Tennessee and Mary Joe Czerczyk of Midwest City, stepson Jeff (Lazlow) Jones and wife Laura and step-daughter Jill Jones, all of Long Island, New York, brothers, James "Pete" Windle of Oklahoma City and Sterling Windle of Norman, Oklahoma, sisters, Lucille Spicer and Margie Hoffberg of Palm Desert, California and Vera Sorrels of Nicoma Park, Oklahoma, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers and three sisters.

Joe was a loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle and friend to all. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, but has been warmly greeted by his Lord and other family members who have gone before.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethany First Nazarene Church Music Department of Bethany, Oklahoma. A celebration of Joe's life will be held at Bethany First Nazarene Church on Monday January 31 at 2:00 p.m.

Interment will be at Bethany Cemetery. Mercer Adams is conducting the services.
