JAMES KEMP
Friends in Salt Lake have been informed of the death of James Kemp, former Salt Lake resident, at Los Angeles, Calif., Friday.
Mr. Kemp had just returned from a visit to his children in Salt Lake county when he died.
He came to Utah from Carlton, Bedfordshire, England, with his parents in 1852. He lived in Salt Lake two years and moved to St. George, later going to Crescent to live. Several years ago he moved to California.
He is survived by his widow, ten children, William, Harvey, Samuel, Mrs. C. May Wollington and Mrs. Myrtle Fairbourn, all of Crescent; Earl, Fred, Lawrence, all of Salt Lake; Marvin of Los Angeles and Richard of Murray. He also is survived by thirty-eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren, one sister, Kate Thurston of Salt Lake, and one brother of Ogden.

Despite what his obituary says, he was not born in Bedford/Bedfordshire in England, but in Carleton Rode, Norfolk (in the same vicinity as all his siblings and extended family). His birth is registered in the Depwade Registration District which encompasses the parishes of Carleton Rode, Old (& New) Buckenham, and Bunwell, where the family originated.
