Memorial Grave for James Webb and his Wife Mary Matthew and his children and grandchildren and his parents John Webb and Mary Boone of Berks, Pa There were too many Webb researchers that have taken James Webb's Heritage and placed him as the James Webb of Letcher, Kentucky without proper documentation and its very clear he married and had his own family.

This is true with my 5th great-grandfather James Crittenden Webb born in 1737 and died in 1805 in Burke County, North Carolina, and his wife Elizabeth. There are hundreds of family trees online with his wife as
Elizabeth Nelson. She was made up by a Webb researcher and assumed his parents, John Webb and Mary Boone. This is what happens when people copy research versus doing research

1789. The mother and Wife are not known and it is not Elizabeth Nelson as thousand of researchers has without any source or proof.

We now know that James Webb of Wilkes County, North, Carolina, and Floyd, and Letcher, Kentucky,
That James Webb was born in 1728-1766 in North Carolina/ Virginia and in Surry County North in 1771 until 1778 when part of Surry was taken to form Wilkes County, North Carolina James Webb's wife is unknown He had 360 acres of land, and sold the last 100 Acres in 1809. He appears in Floyd Kentucky in 1815 when he witnessed the marriage of His granddaughter. and in 1820 as the Elder James Webb of
Oven Fork Baptist Church. James's son James Jr in-laws William Pennington and Abigail were members of the church
James Jr married Elizabeth Pennington on 4 Nov 1812 in Floyd, Kentucky

The early Webb family in Letcher, Kentucky were aware that Benjamin Webb's b/ 1785 father was James Webb, and believe he was the son of John Webb and Mary Boone making his descendants cousins to Daniel Boone and many Webb members told that story. Therefore as a Webb researcher, you don't get to take my James Crittenden Webb or James Webb of Berks, PA, and attach them to your Family tree but many thousands have done exactly that. Research takes time and money and without that this is the type of family tree you end up with someone else 's ancestors which means nothing. Let me add that the death date of 31 Dec 1825 used by many Webb researchers is in fact the death date for James Webb b/ 1751 died 31 Dec 1825 in Cumberland, North Carolina, and had four children Abarida, Redding, Josiah, and Polly Webb. Redding on 1850 Census Johnston, NC

Research by 4th great-grandson Emrick A. Webb

James Webb, born on March 4, 1737, in Exeter Township, Berks County, PA, was one of the nine children of John Webb and Mary Boone. The Webbs and Boones were Quakers from England and were among the original founders of the Exeter Friends Church. The Webb-Boone family record is documented in various Boone family histories and in the Quaker meeting records for Exeter Township. James Webb and Daniel Boone [born 2 November 1734] were first cousins and neighbors through childhood, with family visits documented in Daniel Boone's remembrances.

The Berks County Tax Lists for 1760 show James Webb as a single man at age 23 and a taxable resident of Exeter Township. But in the 1763 record, he is listed as married, and he continued to appear in that record through 1775. The Berks County tax record also lists brothers John Jr., Benjamin, Joseph, and Samual in Exeter and adjacent Amity Townships through 1765, while George went over the mountain to Brunswick Township, as did Joseph and Benjamin who shows there on the tax rolls for 1770 through 1778. Since many of the Webb family members were no longer affiliated with the Friends Church, their lives were not documented, and no official record has been found of the marriage in 1763 of James Webb to Mary Matthews, or of the births of their children for those years in Exeter Township. However, a lawsuit [Matthews v. Warren which will be shown later] proves conclusively that Mary Matthews is the wife of James Webb. But most significant is a recently revealed family Bible which most likely was in possession of James Webb, and in which presumably he had written the birthdates of his 14 children. The order and format of the listing are as follows:
James Webb Jr. was Born on February 19, 1764
Amelia Webb was Born May 12 -------- 1765
John Webb Born August 1 --------- 1766
Dinah Webb was Born on August 1 -------- 1766
Adin Webb Born Sept. 29 ---------- 1767
Asa Webb was Born May 31 ------------ 1769
Jeremiah Webb was Born Dec. 26 ------ 1770
Bennajah Webb was Born May 30 ------ 1772
Rachel Webb Born Nov. 13 -------- 1773
Moses Webb was Born May 1 ---------- 1775
Amasa Webb Born Feb. 2 ---------- 1777
Mary Webb Born August 21 ------- 1779 departed this life Sept 19, 1779
Elijah Webb was Born July 26 ----------- 1781
Elisha Webb was Born on March 21 -------- 1783
