103 Year-Old Covington Resident Was McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church Member
Etha Craft Hayslett passed away Monday, December 12, 2022 at Brian Center Nursing Care-Alleghany, Low Moor, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, A.A. (Gus) Hayslett in 2007.

Mrs. Hayslett was born March 28, 1919 in Longdale, Va., the daughter of Edward (Pete) Craft and Ella Mae Loyall Craft.

She was a lifetime resident of Alleghany County and a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was a former member of the choir.

During her working career, Etha was employed as a clerk at the former Courtesy Store and was also a certified beautician.

A lover of flowers, she truly enjoyed being in her garden and working in her flower beds as long as she was physically able.

Mrs. Hayslett is survived by a son, A.A. (Gus) Hayslett, Jr. and wife, Rebecca A. of Covington; two daughters, Pamela H. Higgins and husband, Harold W. Higgins, Sr. of Covington and Harriet H. Byers and husband, Peter P. Byers; eight grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Nancy H. Meadows and husband, Gene of Covington and Linda Morris of Covington; a number of nieces and nephews. During the last several years, Tessie DePriest has provided loving in-home care, helping Etha remain at her home in Intervale.

Born a twin, Etha was the last surviving member of her siblings.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs Hayslett was preceded in death by eleven siblings: Isiak Craft, Mildred Robinson, Stokes Craft, Garland Craft, Edna C. Ballard, Naomi Craft, Dorothy Craft, Buster Craft, Lorraine C. Black,, Letha C. Shawver and Buren Craft.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening December 14 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2022 at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jim Moss officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Gary P. Byers, Peter A. Byers, Kevin M. Byers, Harold W. Higgins, Jr., Chase Higgins, Brad R. Hayslett, Wallace O. Adcox, III, and Chris Hurley. Honorary pallbearer will be David Craft.
