Instead of Mexico, Fred headed west to Idaho. On 3 Feb 1912, 31-year old Fred married 19-year-old Daisy Maude Phillips, in Ada County, Idaho. She, too, was English. Their infant daughter, Evelyn, was born two months later, dying in July 1912. The young couple divorced afterwards.
In the 1918 draft registration, Frederick was living alone in Boise, Idaho, and working as a mechanic -- an occupation pursued too by his younger brother, Ernest, in England.
In the 1920 census, a divorced Frederick King-Hall, English by birth, was living in Los Angeles, occupation: violinist. On 16 September 1921 in Yuma, Arizona, Fred married Grace Myrtle Crichton, a native of Illinois and a resident of Los Angeles. In the 1930 census, they were living in Long Beach. He was working as a mechanic. Grace died in 1942 in Los Angeles.
In 1963, Fred Hall was fatally injured in a hit-and-run accident in Lane County, Oregon. His death certificate gave his name as Fred Kingsley Hall, his place of birth as England, and his parents as "unknown." The Eugene Register-Guard reported that graveside services were held at Drain Cemetery on Thursday afternoon, 7 March.
For whatever reason, Frederick severed his English ties completely.
