Doris Elizabeth (Betsy/Lib) Abernethy, formerly of York, South Carolina left her earthly home on December 17th, 2022. She went peacefully into the arms of Jesus with family by her side.
There will be no formal arrangements at this time. We ask that you spend time with your loved ones and cherish these moments.
Betsy was born in York, SC on October 1, 1949 and was a daughter of the late Robert Bratton Lowry and Doris Mae Young. She was a graduate of York High School and attended Kings Business College. Betsy was retired from the York County School District One as a Secretary. She attended Greater Life Ministries in Clover, SC. Betsy was a member of a local bridge club which she loved and also a book club. She loved to fish and enjoyed watching her birds and feeding them. Betsy's life revolved around her family and friends. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She also enjoyed day trips with the love of her life, her husband Steve.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years Steven O'Brien Abernethy; her sister Lucie Hewitt; two daughters Beth Montgomery (Michael) and Laura Mayben (Billy); four grandchildren, Jill Dover (Mark), Richard Lockridge (Amber), Turner Mayben (Hannah), and J.C. Ramsey as well as two step grandchildren Ashley (Chris) Kennedy and Madison Montgomery; and five great grandchildren Eli Dover, Hannah Grace Dover, Arthur Lockridge, Olivia Mayben, and Ezra Lockridge and her sister- in- law, Biddie Lowry of Haystack, VA.. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Lowry
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to honor one of Betsy's favorite outreaches Greater Life Ministries P.O. Box 509, Clover, SC 29710 in memory of Betsy Abernethy.
