George Vincent Back passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 18, 2022. He was
born to Harold and Gertrude Back in Syracuse, New York. He was predeceased by his
parents and two sisters, Marion Back and Nancy Lanza. Surviving sisters are Joan Back
of Syracuse and Linda Stith (William) of Corpus Christi, two nephews and their families
and by his wife Geraldine, his daughter Mary Susan Back (David Hecht) and his son,
George Vincent II (Samantha), grand-daughter, Veronica Sue, and grandsons George
Vincent III and Alexander Gilbert.
George served our country first in the United States Army, as an engineer, and then in
the United States Air Force, as a navigator. He served as a reconnaissance officer
during the Cold War and, later, as an Electronics Warfare Officer (EWO) during the Viet
Nam War. He completed his 30 year Air Force career at Beale Air Force Base where he
retired. Upon retirement, he went to work at Lockheed Martin (Lockheed Advanced
Development Company).
George volunteered at the Retiree Activities Office at Hurlburt Field. He was a member
of the Lions Club. As a member of St. Sylvester's Catholic Church, he was a member of
the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Distinguished Flying Cross
Society.
