Abilene, Texas - Laverne Conner Thomas, 60, died Sunday, February 17, 2008, at an Abilene medical center.

Laverne was born to Marion "Buddy" and Ozeal Lewis Conner November 3, 1947, in Abilene, Texas.

She attended Carter G. Woodson Elementary and High School, excelling in many activities including the Marching Band, being a Majorette and the Homecoming Queen in 1965.

She married Robert Odell on February 5, 1972. To this union was born one daughter, Stephanie Dionne, whom she named after her two roommates at Cisco Junior College.

She was formerly employed at Joe and Sharon Allen's Cahoots for over 17 years and A.I.S.D the past two years, working first in Cooper High School Cafeteria and at Craig Middle School until suffering a stroke on December 13, 2007. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, active until the stroke. She was president of the Kitchen Ministry the past five plus years and a member of the Usher Board, also helping when needed in the Children's Ministry and in the Nursery.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Odell; daughter, Stephanie and son-in-law, Renny Mosley; and three grandchildren. She cherished Xavier, Zachery and Wisdom Mosley. Her father, Buddy Conner; six brothers, Marion "Junior" Conner, Douglas Conner (Tonie), Ocie Conner (Pearlie), Bobby Ray Conner (Karen), Terry Lee Conner and Gaylen Pimpton; three sisters, Ruby "Sista" Morris, Octavia Collins (Tommy) and Vanessa Pimpton; a great uncle, Paul Cumby (Merle); an uncle, Johnnie Ray Byrd; and two aunts, Helen Conner of Rotan and Ella Mae Giles "Aunt Sister" of Abilene, plus a host of in-laws, nieces , nephews and cousins also survive her.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ozeal; a sister, Donna Gail; and numerous grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Macedonia Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Matthew M. Lubin and directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
